We’ve seen recently how popular bicycling has become. Multiple cities across Europe have started community biking projects and New York City and D.C. may soon join them. The environmental impact alone is worth biking to work everyday, but have you seen how much money you can save as well?
According to The Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average cost of owning a car is approximately $7,310 per year, based on a study in 2006 on the household cost of owning a vehicle per quintiles of income. The article also mentions:
“According to the AAA, the average person spends $9,641 per year for the privilege of driving. Keep in mind that these estimated costs are based on an average gasoline cost of $2.256 per gallon. The numbers also don't include the cost of parking.”
$9,641 per year?! That’s outrageous! And think of how much you’re adding to your carbon footprint. By bicycling to work everyday, you not only save money, you get to feel like you’re helping the planet AND getting a workout. Also, don’t forget: IT’S FUN!
